Concert Etiquette

by Jennifer Olberding

1.      Arrive early and be seated before the program begins.  If it is necessary to leave the concert, do so only during applause or between performers.

2.      Remain quiet during the performance.  Talking, whispering, or any other noises can be a distraction for other audience members.

3.      Remain seated until the end of the program.  Restroom breaks and drinks of water should be done before the concert starts, otherwise they should only be done in an emergency.

4.      Applaud only at the end of a selection.  There should be no applause between sections of one selection piece.  You will know when to applaud by watching the director.

5.      Stay for the entire concert.  Every student prepares extensively for the performance.  Don't leave simply because your child is finished.

The simplest rule to remember is:  Don't do anything that would cause you to receive more attention than the performers.
