Washburn University Richey Scholarship

Topeka – Parker Gallion is one of three Kansas high school students who have been awarded a prestigious Richey Scholarship for 2012-2013 from Washburn University.  
These students are among the highest achieving in Kansas and the nation. They rank among the top one percent of students in the nation when high school grade point average and ACT scores are considered. They also earned an average grade point average of 3.96 and an average ACT of 31. The list of activities, accomplishments and community service projects is inspiring.  
Gallion is a member of the National Honor Society, and is active in his school’s music and theatre programs. He participated in scholar’s bowl, forensics and cross country. Within the Frankfort community he is involved in church activities, Meals on Wheels and volunteers with the Frankfort Library and the American Diabetes Association. Gallion is currently a certified nurse assistant and plans to major in nursing.
The other two students receiving the Richey Scholarship are Russell Budden, St. Marys High School; and McKenzie Gnagi, Washburn Rural High School.
The Richey Scholars program was established with the generous gift of the Ronald Richey Family. The premier scholarship provided by the Richey Scholar program assist Washburn in attracting the highest achieving students. Students whose academic achievement places them in the top one percent of students nationally are invited to apply. Awards are based on academic achievement, extra-curricular involvement, and leadership and service to the community.
