Schools Receive Governor’s Achievement Awards
The fifth annual Governor’s Achievement Awards were recently announced. USD 380 Vermillion was notified that Frankfort Elementary, Frankfort High School and Centralia High School were among the top performing schools in the state that received this prestigious award. Forty-three elementary schools, 11 middle/junior high schools and 18 high schools received the honor.
Governor’s Achievement Award schools must have achieved the Standard of Excellence in both reading and mathematics for 2011. The school must also have made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) in both reading and mathematics and one additional measure.
For elementary schools and middle/junior high schools, the additional AYP measure is attendance and for high schools, the measure is graduation rate. Additionally, the school must have been among the top five percent of schools in both reading and mathematics on the 2011 state assessments.
This is the fourth Governor’s Achievement Award for Frankfort Elementary and the fifth for both Frankfort and Centralia High Schools. Frankfort Schools’ Principal Dean Dalinghaus said, “I am so proud of our kids, staff and community for making this happen. It has to do with expectations. It is an expectation that our school will be great and each year, everyone does their job and more to make sure it happens. The students know this is expected of them."
